The ‘Wicked: For Good’ trailer really said bring the tissues

I am a loud believer that Act 2 of Wicked has the better music. Songs like “For Good” and “As Long As You’re Mine” are better than “Defying Gravity” to me. And that’s why I’ve been so excited about Wicked: For Good.

Wicked has always been about friendship. One of my favorite parts of the new trailer for For Good is how it brings up the importance of Glinda (Ariana Grande) and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) as friends. “You’re the only friend I’ve ever had,” Elphaba says. “And I had so many friends. But only one that matters,” Glinda replies. That, to me, is what Wicked is about.

At its core, the book to musical to now these films are all about being an outcast, society at large, and a lot of other moving parts. Of course it’s a new look at how we view “wickedness” and it changes a lot of The Wizard of Oz but it is also a lot more than any of those things. It is a story about friendship and the importance of allowing someone to know every part of you.

I love that this trailer didn’t just include “For Good” only. We got teases of “No Good Deed” and we get to see some pretty iconic moments from the stage musical come to life through Jon M. Chu’s vision. It’s emotional, beautiful, and really shows why a musical like Wicked has stood the test of time, warming the hearts of Broadway fans for over 20 years.

You may think that a theatre kid’s love of Wicked is too much or that we are being dramatic in our love for the story that Wicked gave to us. But it really is a love story on every love. It is romantic love, platonic love, and love that reminds you what everything is worth living for.

Wicked: For Good is set to come out this November and it is going to absolutely wreck us all. But we will be changed for the good because of it.
