‘That’s like the second video I’ve seen’: LA Fitness gym member notices something weird mid-workout. Then he takes a closer look

We expect gyms to be clean and well-maintained. It’s part of gym etiquette to wipe your equipment before and after use. But what happens if you find that your gym is not as clean as you hoped? That’s what happened to one Atlanta LA Fitness customer who says that after what he saw, he’s looking for a new gym.
In a viral seven-second TikTok, Zohshiet (@zohshiet) writes in an on-screen caption, “Time to find a new gym….. LA Fitness @ Toco Hills.” Why? As he shows in the video, he found a mushroom growing out of the wall under a mirror. “Fungus = mold. No wonder I can barely breathe in here.”
‘LA fitness is a cesspool of filth and unsanitized equipment’
In the comments section, viewers seemed disappointed but not surprised that a customer found fungus growing.
One joked, “Bro that’s why I don’t go to the gym, would never happen at Chipotle.”
A second questioned, “Because why is carpet on the walls anyway?”
Several commenters echoed this sentiment, including one who said, “They need to get rid of carpeted gyms it holds sweat and moisture.”
Others said they’ve seen other evidence of LA Fitness being unclean.
“This is like the second video I’ve seen of fungus growing at LA fitness,” one viewer wrote.
A second said, “La fitness is one of the dirtiest gyms I’ve been in.”
Are mushrooms a sign of mold?
According to Inch by Inch Inspections Inc., “If you find mushrooms inside your home, that’s a good indication that there is a moisture issue you need to take care of and mold growth, which is surely present.”
The company states that removing mushrooms without treating the root cause could lead to a recurrence. It recommends acting fast and hiring professional mold removers to remedy the issue.

What should I do if my gym is dirty?
If you find signs that your gym is unkempt, like Zohshiet did, you may consider reporting the issue to the specific location or the corporate office if the company is a franchise. For LA Fitness, you can call or message the company on its website.
You may also consider writing a review or switching gyms if the problem persists.
